Embracing an environmentally-friendly production method

The Sustainable Viticulture in Champagne (VDC) initiative is the culmination of collective efforts which began more than two decades ago. The aim is manifold: better manage the use of inputs for the sake of health and the environment; protect and promote the terroir, biodiversity and the vineyards; practise responsible management of water, effluents, by-products and waste and reduce the energy dependency and carbon footprint of the industry.

2014 marked an important turning point with the introduction of the Sustainable Viticulture in Champagne (VDC) certification. Eight years later, more than 60% of vineyards in the appellation have secured environmental certification, VDC certification in more than 40% of cases.
